LIDO DUNES : A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE YEAR ROUND!
Julie Dirolf receiving the Town of Hempstead "Make A Difference" award on behalf of her late husband Mark.
We are happy to post these words which were read at the presentation:
"We proudly welcome Julie Dirolf the wife of Posthumous honoree Mark Dirolf OF LIDO BEACH.
When Mark Dirolf was taken from us in April, he left behind an indelible legacy in the Lido Dunes community. Indeed, the Mark Dirolf legacy is no less profound than the forces of nature along the coast of one of the most beautiful places on earth, our township's barrier island.
Mark proudly served as president of the Lido Beach Civic Association until his final days, when he lost his courageous bout with a terminal illness.
During his 15 years as president of the Lido Beach Civic Association, and 25 years as a member of the board, Mark worked tirelessly with neighbors and local elected officials to ensure that the needs of the Lido Dunes community were effectively addressed.
Mark was also active in the local business community and he served as a Boy Scout troop leader, and a council member for two churches.
This evening we proudly present a posthumous "Make a Difference Award" to Mark's lovely wife Julie on behalf of a remarkable man and a trusted leader who touched the lives of people in his community, church and family. Ladies and gentleman, let us honor the memory of Mark Dirolf with the 2011."
432-5034 is the lifeguards emergency number - please make a note of it to put in your cell phone for when there are no lifeguards on duty. Check here for other important emergency numbers.
The administration of the association consists of 14 members, all volunteers, who are elected for 2-year terms. There are 3 open meetings per year (for you to attend) plus 10 scheduled Board Meetings.
Although the Civic Association has no legal standing, politically, we do exert a strong influence on the Town of Hempstead and Nassau County Lawmakers. In recent years, due to increased pressure from the Civic Association, new beach walkovers were built, reduced boulevard speed limits were imposed, and beach clean up was improved. The Civic Association is available to Homeowners for discussion and assistance in zoning issues, for example. Our services are dedicated to “What is best for the Community”, and we are always on the alert for code violations with the aim of avoiding legal entanglements with Town and County jurisdictions.
